Childhood’s End Trailer from Syfy Posted at 7:10 PM by Dave Post

Childhood's EndSo this. I don’t know. I just read Childhood’s End a few weeks ago and it did not look like this in my mind. It’s not a bad trailer at all… it just reads more as a horror film than a sic-fi one to me what with the gnarly spider veins and the screaming and all. Spider veins? Where was that in the book?

Of course, it’s Syfy, so we have to cross our fingers and hope more than usual that they don’t screw the pooch completely. The big reveal should be interesting to see at least.  I wonder how many people will be surprised by that?  It’s been out forever and I was certainly aware of it before I picked up the book.  I guess we should keep it on the down low in case there’s a few folks left who don’t know.  In which case I need to shut up.

What do you think? I know we’re all gonna watch it but is anyone actually looking forward to it?

Aside from the spider veins, the trailer does seem reasonably true to my recollection of the book. Childhood’s End wasn’t one of my favorite SF books. From the trailer I don’t know if it’s a movie, a TV series, or a mini-series. It could be terrific, or it could be awful.

It’s a 3-part miniseries with each part being 2 hours. It could be terrific, or it could be awful can be said of any production this far out but it always looms larger for Syfy productions. I will say that Syfy seems to be trying to up their game these days so I’m feeling a little more kindly to them than I used to feel. I am actually looking forward to this one but with fingers crossed. After all, they’re giving me what I’ve been asking for – shows based on the old classics.

I hope they’re using a different production company than the one that cranks out movies in two week sprints. That’s the company that did Sharknado and most of their direct to SF movies. I read Childhood’s End for a Mythology and SF class in high school, so it’s been maaaaaany years. I only remember the big reveal. I’m wondering if I should reread it before or after watching it…
