Embassytown is on my reading list. I’m waiting for it to come out in paperback at the end of the month. When I read the description of The Islanders, I immediately added it to my list.

One of these days I’m going to read a China Mieville book. That guy gets more noms than just about anybody.

If I was a betting man, I would bet on Mieville or Priest.

I’m a huge Mieville fan. I’ll be reading "Embassytown" this year still. It seems I read two of his books per year – "Kraken" and "The City & The City" in 2011, two vastly different novels. That’s his appeal – every book he wrote is so completely unique. I make a brave statement: Mieville is the Tolkien of contemporary fantasy! He has to be read, otherwise it may just be near impossible catching up. He is becoming quite prolific.

@Dave, I credit Mieville’s The City and the City for my return to F and SF. (I had not strayed too far, but I was only reading authors that I’d read before.) When I read that book, I thought "Wow, that guy has some interesting things to say." Of course, being an academic, I did some research …. which ultimately brought me to WWE. I still have most of his books on my reading list, but I’m certainly reading Perdido Street Station and Embassytown this year.

I’m not a Mieville fan at all, although that is based on just the one book (Perdido Street Station), and I have The City and the City waiting to be read thanks to its Hugo.I worry it’s a sign that I’m getting old. Is this how the Asimov and Heinlein fans felt when cyberpunk came along? 🙂
