Looking at the first page of the PKD award and seeing how many books are on my reading list was a depressing reminder of how fast I don’t read.
Then, to add insult to injury, the PKD panel puts a bloody trilogy on the shortlist!
Ditto @whargoul. I did manage to read "Deadline" – I wonder why it got nominated. It’s no where near as good as "Feed." Actually, it’s incredibly disappointing.
@Dave, one really need to read "Feed" first, otherwise "Deadline" will make no sense. And "Deadline" ends on such a cliffhanger that one will need to read the final volume as well. It implies reading all of them in order. And it implies that the PKD panel chose two "bloody" trilogies on the list (although, not having read the Samuil Petrovitch trilogy, I can’t vouch for the magnitude of the series bloodiness. Where zombies are concerned, on the other hand, one can be certain of blood loss 🙂 But reading the note about Samuil, I think I may just get onto this trilogy.
I have not read any of these, but the Simon Morden trilogy sounds interesting.
As usual I haven’t read any of these. 😛 In just had a look at the booktracker and it seems I have only read 3 nominated works in the 30 years it has been awarded. Shameful really 😛
I am really digging these noms. Fresh authors and neat ideas.Out of the major the awards here, the PKD nominated books are by far my most desired but least read.
@Emil: It’s always a bit tricky when a mid series book gets nominated for an award. It forces you to either play catch up on the series or abandon the attempt all together. @Rhonda Knight: Same for me on Morden. Book one has been on my list for ages it seems. @Val: It’s very rare that I read current works. It’s one of the occupational hazards of working on WWEnd. So damn many great books to read I can just never catch up. @daneyvette: The PKD award does seem to go a little farther off the beaten track than some of the other awards but, alas, I’ve only read a handful myself.
