Great first episode! Not for the squeamish though – especially the part where Geoffrey takes care of Robert’s indiscretions. I may be watching the rest of the series alone after that. My wife was not happy about those scenes. The production values on this show really are better than the vast majority of big budget movies.

I have to wait until Friday 13th, fathom that 🙂

Dave, you’re right about the infanticide. I know at least two women who won’t be watching, now, who were otherwise on the verge of starting it. It’s such an ingrained aspect of history, however, that I think those scenes were justified. This series is one giant metaphor for the Middle Ages.

@Emil: It’s worth the wait but I’m sorry you have to. @Rico: Exactly! I tried to explain it that way to Karen even bringing in the Bible. I’m not sure she’s going to pick it up again but we have a week for her to decide. It’s just so shocking to see it on film like that.

I thought the first episode was fantastic! This trailer is really effective, too. I’m looking forward to this season. Given all that’s happened in the show so far, it’s interesting that some people see Joffrey’s ordered infanticide as a final straw. I don’t want to spoil season one for anyone, but I remember a couple of violent scenes early on in the show that also lost it some viewers. GRRM’s world is very violent, but so is human history, as you all have pointed out…
