Last week we reached a new milestone on WWEnd:  2,500 book reviews!    You may remember we just celebrated our 2,000th review in September.  Since that time we’ve been bringing in well over 100 reviews a month which is just amazing!

A good many of these reviews are the result of our reading challenges and our new Roll-Your-Own Reading Challenge promises to bring in more reviews than the 2013 Women of Genre Fiction did.  After only 1 month we already have 55 reviews!  The challenges have also been a driving force in bringing in new members who often bring with them a back catalog of reviews to share with us.  We’ve got 88 new WWEnders for 2014, mostly for the RYO, and we expect that number to keep growing.

This is a great achievement for our community and we have to say thanks to all our members who have been contributing their time and talents to WWEnd.  This is also a good time to recognize our top 10 reviewers.  You can see by their numbers just how far above and beyond these folks have gone in supporting our community.

Oh, and the 2,500th review?  That was submitted by none other than Charles Dee Mitchell, our number one reviewer by a long way, for Conscience of the Beagle by Patricia Anthony.

Thank you all again and here’s to the next 2,500!

I should get around to adding my back catalog. Pretty sure I have another 70 or 80 of books that are in the database.

@Val: That would move you up the Top 10 list! Thanks!

Dave, I know I’ve been mostly silent on this site lately up until these recent reading challenges, but let me say that I’m happy for you that these RYO and other challenges are finally generating so much interest into this great site that you’ve been working so hard on for all these years. Though it’s been a while since I’ve done anything with it, I’m proud to have the Uber User title next to my name. 😉 Makes me feel old school.

Congrats!

Congratulations to everyone and kuddos to these super reviewers for all of their hard work!

So many reviews! Here’s hoping WWend gets the next 2500 with the RYO challenges :).

Congrats to WWEnd and thanks to everyone who has ever submitted a review! I love being part of a community that makes an effort to express itself. In my short time on this site, I have picked up quite a few books because of glowing reviews. And I appreciate both the positive and negative reviews because they help me expand my own parochial notions of what a good book is and isn’t. Cheers to the WWEnd community!

Wow, it was nowhere near this active when I first joined!! I’m so happy and delighted about the growth and only wish I can contribute more!

This place has really become a virtual home for me – it often breaks the isolation I sometime experience on the farm 🙂

Yes! I’ve enjoyed watching things expand over the last couple of years…

@ Deven: Not a problem, my friend. People ebb in and out all the time as real life and fluctuating interests dictate. When you’re needing some genre goodness we’ll be here, right where you left us 😉 The challenges have injected some much needed life into the site, that’s for sure. It’s a lot of work but it’s still just too much fun for us.

@Rhonda and Allie: Hear, hear! The reviews are all you and we’re just so proud of the overall quality. We love connecting to so many great book blogs through the reviews too! 2500 more reviews this year might be a stretch but I think we should get at least half of that which would mean keeping to a steady 100+ per month. I’d like that very much!

@Stephen: You might not have been with us long but you’ve jumped in with both feet and even snagged a couple review prizes! We’ve got a batch of regulars that we can always count on for quality reviews and you’re certainly in that group along with everyone else who has commented here already!

@Emil is an old salt ’round these parts! Things really have picked up nicely with some of the more interactive bits like the challenges taking center stage. It’s still so much fun to check in on the site daily and see what all our regulars are up to. You just know there’s going to be a great review that wasn’t there yesterday or some talk about what’s next on the reading pile etc.

I’m constantly amazed at the level of effort from everyone who contributes to WWEnd. So much quality you wonder how it could get better then you find a new Foray from @Scott Laz or a new manga piece from galleyangel waiting in the blog and you know you’re in for a real treat.

Thanks everyone for the support and the kind words! Let’s keep this good momentum rolling.

Reviews are one of my favourite parts of WWE. I try to add one a week. I look forward to reading new reviews of the books I have read.

Val   |   02 Feb 2014 @ 14:44

Alright, I did some serious data-entry this weekend. Turns out is was more like a hundred. I have a bunch more but those are of books that haven’t been added to the database (yet).

Dave Post   |   02 Feb 2014 @ 22:13

@Paul James: I’d say that the reviews really are one of our best features especially now as we’re getting so many new ones. Used to be you’d have to hunt and peck to find a review on the site. We’re getting some broad coverage now. Check out the Books Reviewed list (https://www.worldswithoutend.com/lists_books_reviewed.asp) to see ’em all in one place. Click the “Books I’ve Tagged” link in the alpha menu on that page to see all the books you’re read that are also reviewed on the site.

@Val: Serious data entry is right! From 108 reviews to 212 in a weekend – an impressive feat and most generous of you. On behalf of the whole community, thanks!
