The Taste of Cinema website has published a list of twenty Eastern European science fiction films worth checking out. Some are the expected classics, but there are possible gems here if you can track them down. The title of this posting is the title of film number 14.

I highly recommend Sexmission. It’s a classic sci-fi comedy that’s hugely popular in Poland. I wonder if it holds up for audiences abroad.

Czech filmmaker Jan Švankmajer’s Alice (fantasy, not SF) is a deeply bizarre and surreal take on Alice in Wonderland. Highly recommended, if you like that sort of thing…

Hard to Be a God is one of the most memorable films I’ve ever seen. I’ll just leave it at that.
